Aloha! The Ben Folds concert was pretty fun. But I saw one of the weirdest things there. To the right of the stage, there was a lady translating the lyrics of the bands into sign language...

What I don't get is why they needed her. Why would a deaf person be interested in going to a concert? How could they be a fan of the music in the first place, if they can't listen to the melody? It just doesn't seem logical to me.

I did learn something from her though. Ben Folds wrote a song in collaboration with Dr. Dre, which of course was nothing but cursing left and right. And sure enough, there was the sign language girl translating every word of it. Lovely. By the end of the song, I was able to add a few words into my already very limited vocabulary of sign language. I don't ever intend to use them, but it's nice to know in case anybody ever says anything in sign language that they don't want me to hear.
